Synopsis

The stage musical, Footloose is based on the popular 1984 motion picture of the same title, staring Kevin Bacon as Ren McCormack and John Lithgow as Reverend Shaw Moore.

When Ren McCormack and his mother Ethel move from Chicago to a small farming town, both are prepared to adapt to a new life; Ren, however, is in no way ready to accept a strict local edict which bans dancing, handed down by the resident preacher in an attempt to exercise control over the town’s youth that he cannot exercise in his own home. The preacher’s hurting, rebellious daughter, Ariel, joins forces with Ren to change local opinion.

However at the center of Footloose is faith—a clergyman father’s loss of faith when his son is tragically killed and a young man’s loss of faith when he is abandoned by his father and forced into a different and drastically sterile new home. The true heart and soul of Footloose is the story of the journey these two men make, together, to find faith again in others, in life, and in self.
